dc.description.abstract | The primary aim of our work in building a soil database is to present the methods for creating a highly detailed soil information database on an up-to-date basis in the field of geoinformatics from the data of the soil profile described genetically of the sample space version of the “Hundred type” cultivation area assessment and from site-descriptions and the laboratory soil analysis information of the large scale (1:10,000) Hungarian Genetic Soil Mapping (HGSM). The soil database established in the framework of the soil profile data harmonization of various resources may be linked to other soil data, e.g. from the geocoded National Pedological and Crop Production Database (NPCPD). Nowadays, the information content of the soil profiles collected in the 1970s and 1980s are valued more and more, given that the financial means, the institutional background as well as a well-established concept are all missing in order to implement a new and comprehensive national soil mapping programme within the foreseeable future. By all means, we have to emphasize that the soil property maps prepared based on the soil database compiled for the observation plot can be considered as initial results, and their spatial estimation only corresponds to a rough approximation in a first step. On one hand, we would like to continue to refine our estimations in the near future by involving other environmental auxiliary variables (e.g. geological information, remotely controlled data, slope category, exposure, vegetation cover, etc.). On the other hand, the spatial breakdown of the soil database at the observation plot is refined with further data and with the processing of soil database locations that have not been identified before. The data of the soil database continuously expanding and becoming more detailed in spatial resolution with time can be used for soil property maps prepared with geostatistical methods, for water management maps specified in different ways (water conductive, water storage and water holding ability), and their derived results can be used for mitigating damages caused by droughts, for planning irrigation and water stagnation protection as well as crop production adapted to climate change. | hu_HU |
