This thesis examines the historical background of Rastafarianism, the main religious and political stages influencing Rastas as well as the way of life they formed from the 1930s. Drawing on the works of significant authors I will demonstrate that Rastafarianism as a religion, political movement and a way of life has an important role for black people and I will prove that it re-establishes and strengthens black identity.
