Reasons for not breastfeeding in Damascus, Syria
Absztrakt
The Syrian conflict, which started in 2011 and has still been ongoing, has had multiple negative impacts on the Syrian society, particularly on population health. The most negatively affected groups have been women and children under 5 years of age. They have been facing continuous food insecurity due to which malnourished pregnant women cannot give their children the required nutrients, including right after birth after which a high percentage of babies cannot be breastfed adequately, so these children are missing the optimal circumstances for full mental and physical development. This research will focus on the reasons behind the difficulty/refusal of the mothers to breastfeed their babies and using formula milk.
