Absztrakt

Ever since the game was first played in Canada, hockey and Canadian culture have been intricately interwoven. From Jim Prime and Paul Henderson through Jason Blake to Ken Dryden and Stephen Harper, authors from all walks of life have articulated how the game defines the nation and the status it holds in politics, literature, popular culture and history. My objective is to introduce a plan consisting of seven forty-five-minute sessions in Canadian Culture with the exact focus the above sources share, hockey. I will first investigate how the subject can be taught through the political, historical and pop culture associations of the sport and then present seven detailed lesson plans complemented with written and audiovisual class material.
