Acute myocardial infarction is the death of myocardium caused by acute occlusion of one or more coronary arteries. AMI is one of the leading causes of death in the western world and for that reason the proper management of AMI has a major role in healthcare. In this thesis, different aspects of AMI are presented. Among them: risk factors, epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathophysiology, diagnosis, prognosis and the main focus is on the available treatments used nowadays and newly researched drugs that are still under investigation.
