The main aim of this thesis is to present the different interventions applied over the years in order to approach patients with aortic valve stenosis and improve prognosis. The evolution in diagnostic and therapeutic methods has been significantly noted, as the patients are nowadays more likely to survive and sustain a respectable quality of life. There is extensive discussion on the pathophysiology and the diagnosis of aortic stenosis, as early and accurate diagnosis has a considerably better prognosis.

Focusing on Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), as a newly introduced minimally invasive treatment practised on high surgical risk patients with aortic stenosis, this thesis presents how beneficial this intervention has been, considering also critical complications. In order to evaluate the efficiency of TAVI, examination, and comparison of TAVI with surgical methods and medical therapy is made using data collected from studies. It is concluded that TAVI has a revolutionary role in aortic stenosis treatment and it is insisted that further research on intermediate or low-risk patients should be accomplished in order to prove the extent of its efficacy.
