This thesis aims to build the focus on how the Irish Magdalene laundries and mother and baby homes worked as places of concealment and suppression, with highlighting the case of unmarried mothers and their inhumane treatment in these establishments, placing special focus on the trauma these mothers had to go through. I am going to examine two cinematic representations in this field, The Magdalene Sisters and Philomena.hu_HU
