This thesis aimed to reveal the current trends and research advances in the utilization of drones in precision crop production at a global perspective, considering the period between 2000 and 2022, and evaluating the economic feasibility of drone utilization for precision crop production. Articles were retrieved from the Web of Science database and analyzed using VOSviewer software. Economic feasibility was assessed based on Cost-Benefit analysis and payback period. USA and China were the global lead researchers, while the most outstanding operation for drone use was remote sensing with a total link strength of 25. Drone utilization was proved to be economically feasible in intensive cultivars like maize due to a high input-saving potential (17%), and time-saving value of (USD.18.25/ha). A critical farm size of 40 hectares was estimated for a static payback period of at least 10 years. Further research was recommended on economic feasibility based on time series data to reveal the technology’s effect on the farm’s net profitability, as well as the analysis of differential crops, technological elements, and the impact of drone regulations.
