Uterotonics and Tocolytics, which are pharmacological agents, act on the Uterine smooth muscles. Uterotonics cause muscle contractions and are used for the induction of labour, augmentation of labour and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. Tocolytics on the other hand relax the uterine smooth muscle, making them useful in delaying preterm birth and during this window we can administer glucocorticoids for fetal lung maturation.
