Theory of mind and mentalization deficits in patients with personality disorders (Borderline Personality Disorder)

Abstract

The thesis describes the meaning of the concepts theory of mind and mentalization. It also gives an understanding on Borderline personality disorder specifically. This thesis investigates the relationship between ToM and mentalization deficits and their manifestation in individuals with personality disorders, with a focus on BPD patients. The results emphasize the significance of early identification and focused therapeutic interventions intended to improve ToM and mentalization capacities in this population. The research also highlights the potential for improving treatment outcomes by incorporating mentalization based therapies into routine BPD care.
