Among the many references to various philosophies and religions, the role of Buddhism in Lost is more or less under the surface. Unsaid, but it is present in the development of several key characters and in the background mythology of the show as well: the island, which somehow seems to connect everything, can be interpreted as (a literal or figurative – we shall see) source of enlightenment.
