My thesis is intended as an introduction to the imagery of nature and erotic love in the poetry of two most well-known and highly popular metaphysical poets John Donne and Andrew Marvell. I have chosen this topc beacuse metaphysical imagery is exceedingly r ich and diverse, it is something in which poetry loving people can deep into: we can see a wide range of images connected to the vital nature and love which are both physical and mental necessities for us just like the metaphysicals. Those images that I want to reflect upon have several meanings and layers which show Donne's and Marvell's incredible creativity and poetic mind. Moreover, their intelligence is outstanding: they are completely aware of the knowledge of the human past and their present, they know the tradition of Greek mythology , the dogmas of Christianity and they are in the full possession of the religious, political and social issues of the era they are living in.hu_HU
