Ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. A disruption to the perfusion and alteration in the coronary vessels is the main cause of cardiovascular disease. Atherosclerosis is an imminent disease with increasing age. There are other factors acting to accelerate this process, mainly a high level of blood cholesterol. Dyslipidaemia is a major contributor to the disruption in the body lipid levels and regulation. Whether genetic in nature or acquired, the therapy of dyslipidaemias has almost remained steady for many decades. Now the world is looking at lowering the burden of this disease by researching and developing newer drugs and newer targets. The goal is to reduce total expenditure and minimize patient dissatisfaction and interaction, together with lowering of cardiovascular disease risks. Lifestyle adjustments also play a crucial role in maintaining a lower lipid state. But with obesity and type 2 diabetes on the explosive frontier, this is a difficult area to manage. Patient education and collaboration is essential to achieve this. The current guidelines reiterate the importance of lifestyle changes. They also provide treatment plans based on total risk of individual patients.hu_HU
