Chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) is a clinically important complication of systemic anticancer treatment that may lead to chemotherapy dose reductions, treatment delays, platelet transfusions, and interruption of planned therapy. Romiplostim, a thrombopoietin receptor agonist, stimulates megakaryocyte proliferation and platelet production and may therefore provide a supportive treatment option for patients with persistent CIT. In this retrospective, single-center observational study which has been conducted at the University of Debrecen, our aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of romiplostim; meaning whether it can facilitate the chemotherapy continuation, improving the relative dose intensity (RDI), and reducing the platelet transfusion and other supportive interventions.
