This thesis evaluates the effectiveness of European Union and national legal frameworks in securing labour rights and social protections for platform workers. The research addresses the pervasive challenge of employment misclassification, where digital platforms label individuals as independent contractors despite exercising strict organizational control. In reality, this control is maintained through automated algorithmic management, rating systems, and constant performance monitoring. Consequently, this false self-employment status systematically excludes on-location couriers and online freelancers from fundamental rights like minimum wage, paid leave, healthcare, and pension schemes. To address these vulnerabilities, the study analyzes key EU instruments, specifically focusing on the regulatory impact and implementation challenges of the Platform Work Directive (EU) 2024/2831.
