The reaction of 2,6-TDI with 1-hexanol which is a primary alcohol and 2-hexanol which is secondary alcohol were studied by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The activation energies were determined. It was found that 1-hexanol has a lower activation energy than the 2-hexanol. At k1, the activation energy for 1-hexanol is 27.9 kJ/mole and 2-hexanol is 43.0 kJ/mole. At k2, the activation energy for 1-hexanol is 30.6 kJ/mole and 2-hexaanol is 45.9 kJ/mole. This further proves that the reaction of 1-hexanol with 2,6-TDI is faster than the reaction of 2-hexanol with 2,6-TDI.It was also demonstrated that the kinetic results obtained can be used to estimate the distribution of the product that is formed when polymer polyols react with 2,6-TDI.hu_HU
