The thesis reflects on three aspects in Sarah Waters' Affinity: lesbian love, hysteria and incest within the family. More precisely it points out lesbians' struggles in the 19th century, how hysteria shaped the main character's life and also how feminist writers use hysteria as a means to show how the women suffered. It explores incest and how it shaped family relations.hu_HU
