Absztrakt
Botulinum toxin has long been proven as an effective and safe drug to diminish the appearance of wrinkles while causing limited adverse effects. Aside from the four approved FDA botulinum type A toxins, there are emerging formulations undergoing clinical trials as well as multiple biosimilars in Asia. Due to the nature of manufacturing process and reconstitution, these drugs have different levels of efficacy, duration of action, and effects on different muscles in the body. This paper will discuss the current botulinum toxin products on the market and under trial, make the comparison between intramuscular and intradermal techniques, and illustrate the future potential of botulinum toxin in aesthetic medicine.
