The aim of this Thesis is to analyze the role of Mary Shelly’s “Frankenstein: Or the Modern Prometheus” as a precursor to the “Mad Scientist” character archetype. And theorize the basis of this role and how it appears as a modern literary device. Alternatively, my analysis serves to ask the question of the “Mad Scientist” trope and it serves as a commentary in relation to the limits of human knowledge.
