We cannot ignore recognizing the use of dialects and accents in a conversation, be it in our own native language or a foreign language known to us. From this aspect the above quotation is fully acceptable. In many countries and languages people even draw the advantage of these characteristic features to associate their interlocutor with her/his origin. It is quite easy even for foreigners to identify an English-speaking person with strong Indian or Russian accent. In the United States and the United Kingdom there are significant differences among the different usages of the English language. The native American immediately identifies a person from Pennsylvania, Texas or from New York. British people immediately recognize the Yorkshire accent or if somebody came from London. However, this is not always the case when identifying dialects. Accent and dialect differs in that the accent covers only the phonetic features while a dialect incorporates the accent, contains the characteristic grammatical and morphological features as well.
