The research looks into the ways in which integration in the European Union has had an impact on the economic development of member states through the establishment of cooperative relations between institutions, and the creation of a larger market for goods and services, as well as through the management of crises collectively. The research additionally considers how institutions of the European Union influence the governance of the economy, how enlargement has impacted member states both economically and politically, and how the European Union has managed and responded to large-scale crises including the euro area sovereign debt crisis and pandemic. The study details the advantages associated with integration, including trade, investment and policy coordination, as well as the disadvantages as they relate to divergence in economic conditions, governance of member states, and institutional adaptability.
