A Study on Game Development in Virtual Reality

Computer graphics technology has come a long way. What we are able to achieve now used to be in the realm of imagination. With the advancement in Virtual Reality(VR), we are able to immerse ourselves into a virtual world, which, consequently, opens many doors for innovation. This Thesis aims to provide a study on virtual reality and the process of game development in virtual reality. The objective is to create a simple,seated VR FPS game with the use of Oculus Rift HMD and then Test and evaluate the game based on immersion and enjoyability. As a Start for the thesis, we create an introduction to Virtual reality by understanding the concept "virtual reality" and what it is. It'll also discuss the history of virtual reality and how it advance within the last century. Following that, we will talk about the video games industry along with the history of computer graphics in video games. Then, we'll dive deeper into the hardware and functionality of VR, how to control the virtual environment (VE) and which senses can we use..etc. Additionally, we'll briefly talk about some of the common tools needed for VR and how to get started with VR game development. Finally, the thesis will walk you through the process of me developing a simple VR game using Unity3D and Blender software, What worked and what needed more attention, and a general evaluation.
