Since China proposed The Belt and Road Initiative in 2014, China has been trying to break the US-dominated economic system in globalization, also seeking more economic partners in Asia and Europe. In this thesis, we use the SWOT-PEST model to analyze and suggest the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges of BRI in the world environment. It also uses China-Hungary trade data from 2011 to 2020 to empirically analyze the trade competition and complementarity between the two countries in the context of BRI using the export similarity index, the trade combination degree and revealed comparative advantage to demonstrate the opportunities brought by cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win situation.
