Alzheimer disease is the most prevalent form of neurodegenerative disease globally. It affects primarily older individuals and characterized by progressive memory impairment and deterioration of higher cognitive functions. This thesis review will summarize the general characteristic of the AD, concentrate on current pharmacological treatments in the clinical practice routine and elaborate on novel treatment approaches.
