In this investigation I am going to compare compliments and their strategies in American and Hungarian cultures and examine these utterances according to gender distribution. The main data for my research will be the American sitcom Friends and Hungarian soap opera Barátok közt. Watching the movies I will collect the compliment strategies, analyzing and counting them statistically. The goal of my study is to find how compliments are differ or similar in these two cultures. It is interesting to consider which compliment strategies are most frequent in American and Hungarian cultures. Another important question for me is how these compliment strategies are varied among men and women. I would like to find answers to my questions whether women or men are used compliments more and which features are most frequently admired by the representatives of genders in the American and Hungarian cultures.hu_HU
