dc.description.abstractSufficient perfusion and microcirculation are crucial for successful intestinal anastomoses, as impaired microcirculation can lead to complications. This study in juvenile pigs aimed to investigate bowel wall microcirculation at different distances from the anastomosis site and its tensile strength. Using a Cytocam device, microcirculatory measurements were taken before and after anastomosis. Results showed decreased vessel perfusion near the anastomosis, gradually improving over time. Tensile strength was significantly lower in anastomosed segments compared to intact bowel, indicating potential weakness. Monitoring microcirculation with the Cytocam device could aid in optimizing anastomosis placement, with implications for further research on improving healing.
