The foreign presence in the countries of Africa left a significant mark on the structure and operation of the society.Tsitsi Dangarembga and André Brink, the authors of the two novels analyzed in my thesis,offer similar solutions to the problem of constructing meaningful female identities in post-colonial Africa. My thesis deals with the process of identity formation in the cases of two women, with the conclusion that their personalities are constructed, hybrid identities.
