Since the inception of clinical audit, it has proven to be a very useful tool in ensuring effectiveness in health care delivery. But as useful as it is, it is largely overlooked in the world today and this paper aims to bring the importance of clinical audit to light as well as point out some key problems in health care where clinical audit can be implemented to solve said problems. For the purpose of this research, I searched scientific databases using keywords relevant to the topic and relied on the data I gathered combined with some of my personal knowledge to help provide insight about the general concept of clinical audit, how it is carried out, its importance, and some problems it can solve. During the course of this study, I found that although a lot of developed countries are making small efforts to incorporate clinical audit into their health care systems more, the developing and underdeveloped countries are falling far behind and this can have dangerous repercussions for their health care systems in the long run. I have specifically included data from Nigeria to serve as an example. From my findings it is clear that clinical audit is indeed an important part of health care and by extension, public health. It also signifies that there is a strong negligence of clinical audit in the health care industry and more work has to be done to ensure that the concept of clinical audit becomes an integral part of the health care system in every country in the world.
