This thesis aims to describe main stages through which money has evolved and how we came from barter to the use of cryptocurrencies. I will discuss cryptocurrency mining technology and describe a complex system which offers streamlined processes and define how realistic are the possibilities of using cryptocurrency and replacing paper money with cryptocurrency in the future. The focus will be on two countries that have already established one of the cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin as their official currency. These countries are El Salvador and the Central African Republic, and I will determine the situation after the declaration of Bitcoin as the official currency. Given the fact that Cryptocurrencies are evolving, fast-growing, but still relatively new and there is no mass legal regulation of cryptocurrency in the world it creates a rather risky environment for individuals and businesses. I will discuss the possibilities and legal activities that are planned and hopefully it will be implemented in the future within the legal framework of cryptocurrency, in particular, I will focus on the EU and the United States and their approaches. We can unequivocally say that the inclusion of this field in the context of legal regulation will impose barriers that will prevent the misuse of cryptocurrencies. The thesis also discusses the impact of cryptocurrency on international trade, and how profitable it is in terms of global trade. When different currencies fluctuate in international trade, the use of cryptocurrencies becomes an optimal tool for several reasons. It changes the whole picture and offers global innovation in e-commerce. Final opinion will be presented on the importance of legal regulation in the use of cryptocurrency to avoid or reduce risk factors and to incorporate all of this into international trade and its prospects.hu_HU
