Anthocyanin (AC) has many beneficial effects on inflammation and oxidative conditions. The pro-inflammatory cytokines, tumor necrosis factor -α (TNF-α) induces damage in the intestinal barrier. The aim of this study was to compare and investigate the effect of anthocyanin extract on barrier functions on Caco-2 and HaCaT monolayers. The beneficial effect of Anthocyanin extract indicates that it could be protective against inflammatory bowel disease. However, HaCaT cell culture application in the barrier studies is not convincing.
