This paper is concerned with nulla ‘zero’ and zéró ‘zero’, the Hungarian counterparts of English zero. Based on previous literature pertaining to the grammatical category of English zero and to quantification in Hungarian, the main aim of this work is to answer the question of whether the grammatical category of nulla ‘zero’ and zéró ‘zero’ is that of numerals or of quantifiers. Based on multiple pieces of evidence, including corpus data and a grammaticality judgement test, it is shown that Hungarian nulla ‘zero’ shows properties of both quantifiers and numerals. It is also shown that there is a second possible equivalent of English zero, namely zéró ‘zero’, and that it is a quantifier rather than a numeral.hu_HU
