dc.description.abstractThis paper elaborates on the differences between American English and British English. It explores the history and evolution of the two varieties, in order to prove that although they share a common origin, there are many differences between them. These differences are prominently embodied in spelling, vocabulary and pronunciation, which are explained in great details. Also, the future of English and its present situation are described as well by elaborating on globalisation. The paper discusses how the American English is more popular, than British English; however, British English maintains its prestige.
