Absztrakt

The relationship between Turkey and the EU is a highly controversial and therefor interesting issue. Turkey, since the foundation of the republic, has always wanted to get closer to Europe, mainly to the European Union. In my view, the biggest obstacles of the Turkish admission are the country’s economic and political situation, the divided Cyprus and the Turkey’s refusal of opening its ports and airports for Cyprus, the country’s large population that could cause migration problems and its effect on the EU’s institutional structure and political life. The European public opinion is rather negative about this issue that can easily block Turkey's accession since the European people will have to say the final ‘yes’ to it. i belive that Turkey still has a long way to go until it can join the European Union.
