Extraintestinal association in IBD
Absztrakt
Inflammatory bowel diseases are a type of systemic disease that affects not only the gastrointestinal tract but also the extraintestinal organs in many people, which are known as extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) of IBD and may have a major impact on patients' quality of life. And those EIMs can occur even before the beginning of intestinal symptoms, so they must be recognized in order to begin proper diagnostic investigations. EIMs can occur in conjunction with IBD flare-ups and react to treatment for intestinal inflammation, or they can occur independently of IBD activity. So treating the intestinal inflammation alone sometimes isn’t enough for the resolution of EIM, which frequently requires particular treatment.
