This study confirmed that the sigma-1 receptor (σ1R) is expressed in human SZ95 sebocytes. σ1R modulators used in this research did not affect cell viability or polar lipid synthesis. However, two activators, fluvoxamine slightly increased, while SA 4503 decreased lipid production. SA 4503 also had minimal impact on pro-inflammatory cytokine expression. Overall, σ1R appears to have a limited and unclear role in sebocytes, requiring further study with more specific methods such as siRNA- transfection approaches.
