The Worlds of Angela Carter and Tim Burton: Rewritings of "Beauty and the Beast"
Absztrakt
The aim of this thesis is to read Angela Carter’s two rewritten versions of “Beauty and the Beast” in conjunction with Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands. The basis of the comparison is the representation of gender relations in these subversive rewritings and filmic revision of classic fairy tales. The subversion appears mainly through themes like sexuality, the role of the body and the uncanny. I shall show that all these works add something to the original stories, suggesting new interpretations.
