This thesis discusses the alternative representation of the Troubles in the Northern Irish sitcom Derry Girls, more precisely the way the show offers an unconventional approach to violence, the peace process, and religious and social issues of the 1990s’ Northern Ireland in a multidirectional perspective. In the first chapter I explore how the show represents violence and the peace process from alternative perspectives, in the second chapter the alternative approaches the show takes in the representation of religious and social issues, and in the third chapter the multidirectional perspectives the Troubles can be seen from.
