In my thesis I intend to analyze and follow the way this sport gained its present day popularity, from the ancient times, through the refining of the game, to the recent years. I wish to give a detailed description about the significant events, persons and processes that influenced hockey’s development, by other worlds about the Canadian history and the Canadian people’s search for identity in general. Then I would like to examine the Canadian society and its different groups – namely women, Aboriginals, and Blacks – to reveal their experiences in the previously mentioned search for national identity. In my last chapter I wish to deal with the Canadian culture. I introduce the way how hockey appears in the various fields of culture fields from literature to music; from fine arts to movies; from television programs to comics. The purpose of my thesis is to offer an outline of ice jockey’s and – at the same time – Canada’s history, to present the Canadians system of values, and finally to introduce the peculiarities of the Canadian people’s culture.hu_HU
