Absztrakt

The present dissertation examines the meanings of care and its 21st century capitalist reality in the in the films, I Care a Lot (2020) and Help (2021); moreover, it focuses on the issues of the guardianship system in the United States and the negligence of care homes in terms of assistance and protective equipment during the COVID-19 crisis in the United Kingdom. Above that, my thesis hopes to highlight the historical role that women played in caregiving while also focusing on Nancy Fraser’s concept of social reproduction and its significance in capitalist societies. Additionally, I wish to comprehend the manner in which the notions of care and capitalism have evolved and became increasingly ambiguous over time, while closely examining the relationship between Michel Foucault’s concept of biopolitics and capitalism.
