Older people and those living with chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus are at increased risk for poor outcome from pneumococcal infections, which can be easily preventable through vaccination. However, uptake of the vaccine remains low in European countries. Establishing effective vaccination programs requires an understanding of the determinants that affect vaccination coverage.
