To address intensifying labor-management conflicts, China has introduced a punitive damages system into its labor law. However, the practical application of this system currently faces numerous challenges that require targeted solutions. This paper explores the background, concept, characteristics, and functions of punitive damages to highlight their value in protecting workers' rights. By comparing international practices with China's Labor Law and Labor Contract Law, the study identifies specific domestic problems within the current framework. To resolve these issues, the paper proposes expanding the scope of damages to cover health and equal employment, refining compensation standards, and building more efficient relief procedures. Ultimately, these improvements aim to safeguard social fairness and promote the harmonious development of the labor market.
