Obesity is a very complex disease, and the pathophysiology behind it is multisystemic involving several organs and homeostatic pathways, in which any hereditary or acquired error or malfunction could increase the risk to develop obesity. The burden of obesity lies not only in the health complications associated that affect the patient on multiple levels and reduce the quality of life or even be directly or indirectly life-threatening, but it also affects people around the patient as well as communities they live in.
