Pocahontas’s story has been around for centuries and, even in 2021, disputes are contrasting and comparing the documented sources to unravel the truth of the 17th-century American myth. Many sources are available on this subject, including historical reports, books, journals, and documentaries. However, what makes it difficult to uncover the truth is that these sources were written by Captain John Smith, Dr. Linwood “Little Bear” Custalow, and Angela Daniel “Silver Star”, with different perspectives on what happened. Pocahontas’s story is more than just a tale of an imaginary Native American girl designed to fit the expectations of American desires. This part of Native American history has many layers to it as it raises questions of authority and authenticity.
