My hypothesis is that politeness is universal to some extent, but there may be some cultural differences in its realisation. As for the universality of politeness, it is hypothesised that the higher the degree of imposition, the more politeness strategies are employed. In this study, seven situations with different degrees of social factors were used in order to test this hypothesis.
