Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a highly prevalent, poorly controlled chronic progressive disease. As there is no known cure for diabetes, treatment aims to maintain blood glucose levels in as normal range as possible and to control the symptoms, preventing the development of health problems later in life. Incretin-based therapies along with insulin are a promising approach.
