| dc.description.abstract | Global trade dynamics of soybeans and soybean flour are analysed through a network-based approach. The focus is placed on the structure, stability and transformation of international agricultural trade flows between 2000 and 2022. Bilateral trade data are examined using complex network analysis, multi-layer network comparison and the Balassa Revealed Comparative Advantage index. The results show that soybean trade is highly concentrated around a limited number of dominant exporters and importers. Brazil, the United States and Argentina appear as key exporting countries, while China occupies a central position as the largest importer. The soybean trade network is found to be structurally stable, despite major external shocks such as the global financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical trade tensions. A clear distinction is identified between the network structure of raw soybeans and soybean flour, indicating different trade patterns for raw and processed agricultural commodities. The comparison of network indicators confirms that exporters generally hold stronger structural influence within the global soybean trade system. The Balassa index further demonstrates that revealed comparative advantage is strongly associated with export activity, especially in South American countries. The findings contribute to a better understanding of global agricultural trade concentration, network resilience and the strategic position of key actors in soybean-related markets. | |
