Lactation diets composed of a basal diet and a lactation supplementwere formulated to investigate the effect of different levels of energy and lysine intake in a two diet feeding strategy on mobilization of body reserves and daily balances of energy, lysine and nitrogen during d 28 of lactation.Twenty four 2nd parity sows were fed on 1 of 4 diets formulated to supply sufficient amounts of both energy and lysine (HEHL), insufficient amount of energy (LEHL), insufficient amount of lysine (HELL) or insufficient amounts of both energy and lysine (LELL), respectively.Sow on LELL diet mobilized more body fat and protein than those on HELL (P=0.005) and HEHL (P<0.001) diet. Mobilized protein to fat ratio was calculated as 37% on LEHLdiet, 38% both on LELH and HEHL diets whereas 44% in HELL diet.Irrespective of dietary treatments, mobilized body fat contributed more than mobilized body protein to the overall weight loss during lactation. Sows on LELL and LEHL diets mobilized substantial amounts of energy, lysine and nitrogen whereas those on HEHL and HELL apparently retained energy and nitrogen during lactation. It was concluded that two diets feeding strategy has a considerable potential to improve the nutrition of lactating sows by minimizing mobilization of body reserves while maintaining high milk production.hu_HU
