dc.description.abstractIn Mastro-don Gesualdo the body and the gesture are the main mean through which Verga’s writing allows the «unveiling» of the characters’ inner life to the reader. This paper aims to describe how the characters of the novel, consistently with the social processes that Verga intends to represent, live a form of closure to communication that finds its most «exact» representation in silence and, concerning the body, in the pose of the turned shoulders.en
dc.description.abstractNel Mastro-don Gesualdo il corpo e la gestualità si offrono come mezzo privilegiato dalla scrittura verghiana per consentire lo «svelamento» dell’interiorità dei personaggi al lettore. Il contributo proposto intende illustrare come i personaggi del romanzo, in modo coerente rispetto ai processi sociali che Verga intende rappresentare, vivano una forma di chiusura alla comunicazione che assume la sua rappresentazione più «esatta» nel silenzio e, nel corpo, nella posa delle spalle voltate.it
