In my Thesis I will make a comparison between two of my favourite novels, Pride and Prejudice and Bridget Jones’s Diary. Both novels belong to the best novels of English literature. I chose these novels as the topic of my Thesis because both of them are very interesting and they can be analysed from different points of view. I will examine these novels according to these points and I try to answer to several questions. It is obvious that there is an intertextual relationship between the two novels but it is interesting why Fielding chose this novel. Another question, which arises, is that how Austen’s novel can fit into the 20th century environment. To find the answer to these questions I will analyse these texts from the point of view of feminist background, genre, structure, characters and major themes. My purpose is to show that the similarity of the novels is a direct choice which helps to understand the new phenomena of single life.hu_HU
