| dc.description.abstract | The aim of this thesis is to explore Cyberpunk 2077 from a posthuman perspective along with its subgenre transhumanism, to see how these philosophical concepts are represented and debated within the game’s world and narratives. Cyberpunk 2077 offers an exceptional representation of the cyberpunk genre along with its multi layered depiction of both posthumanism and transhumanism through the game’s worldbuilding and its overarching main narrative, but also its various sub-narratives. The player is presented with a highly technological dystopian future where the lines between human and machine are becoming increasingly blurred. The concepts of human identity, consciousness and morality are all influenced by the rapid advancement of technology and it raises critical philosophical questions about this vision of humanity’s future that is defined by the integration of technology and corporate dominance. These issues are discussed in the context of Cyberpunk as a genre. | |
